SHILOH, Ill., Oct. 8 (UPI) -- A U.S. Air Force airman charged with possessing three homemade pipe bombs told a friend he fantasized about killing child molesters, officials allege.
Justin A. Vangilder, 24, of Shiloh, a senior airman at Scott Air Force Base, was charged with three counts of possession of an explosive device after he consented to a search of his apartment Thursday, the Bellville (Ill.) News-Democrat reported Monday.
Vangilder showed the devices to a visitor who called police. The visitor also told authorities Vangilder said he had gathered information on sex offenders in the area, but would use the bombs only as a "last resort."
U.S. Magistrate Judge Clifford Proud agreed with prosecutors' requests to hold Vangilder without bail.
