One winner of $189M Mega Millions jackpot

SEVERN, Md., Oct. 2 (UPI) -- A gas station in Maryland sold the lone grand prize winning ticket in Tuesday night's $189 million Mega Millions jackpot, lottery officials said.

The winning ticket was purchased at the Dash In convenience store behind a Citgo gas station in Severn, Md., 12 miles south of Baltimore. It matched the five lucky numbers, 7, 10, 30, 37 and 53 -- plus the Mega Ball, 1.

No winner came forward Wednesday, the day after the drawing, Philly.com said.

There was only one grand prize winning ticket sold but lotto officials said six tickets were sold that matched all five numbers but not the Mega Ball. Those tickets will win between $250,000 and $1 million depending on whether they purchased a multiplier on their tickets.

The $189 million jackpot would pay about $126 million if the winner opted for a one-time cash payout. They would get the full $189 million through the annuity option, minus taxes of course.

Mega Millions had a bigger jackpot in May, worth $198 million, that was split when two winning tickets were sold, one to a New Jersey man and another to a person who is yet to come forward in Virginia.

The Mega Millions jackpot had been climbing after it hadn't been won since July.
