Texas teacher gets probation for sex with student

FORT WORTH, Texas, Oct. 1 (UPI) -- A former Texas teacher will serve four years probation for having sex with at least two male students, one of whom she's since married, prosecutors said.

Tonya Flink, 40, a technology teacher at Haltom City High School outside Fort Worth, pleaded guilty Monday to two counts of an improper relationship between an educator and a student in Tarrant County Court, the Dallas Morning News reported.

A former student who said he had sex with Flink said she had an affinity for young Hispanic boys, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported. Flink was arrested in December after police said she had sex with at least four students during the 2010-11 school year.

One of the two former students said he was satisfied with the verdict while another, who has since married Flink, refused to cooperate with prosecutors.

"This was an unusual case in that one victim married the defendant and was not cooperative," said prosecutor Robert Foran in a written statement Monday. "The second victim is in agreement with the outcome. After taking into consideration all of the facts and circumstances of both cases, we felt this was an appropriate resolution."

A judge ordered the Tarrant County probation department to determine whether Flink should have to register as a sex offender.
