LOS ALTOS, Calif., Sept. 30 (UPI) -- The Los Altos, Calif., home in which Steve Jobs built his first Apple computers is under consideration for honor, a historical commission said.
Taking the first step in memorializing the modest ranch-style home and iconic garage on Crist Drive, the Los Altos Historical Commission reviewed a proposal last week to designate it a home of "historical significance," the San Jose Mercury News reported.
Jobs lived and worked in the house in the 1970s. He and Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak designed the Apple II computer in 1977 in the garage.
"I remember, he (Jobs) came running from across the street to say, 'We got color!' We weren't particularly interested and didn't know what the heck he was doing in there," said Joan Tankersley, 87, a neighbor who has lived across the street of the Jobs home for the past 60 years.
The house has become a tourist attraction for Apple enthusiasts, to the point Marilyn Jobs, Steve's stepmother and current resident in the home, has placed a sign on the lawn reading, "All photographs must be taken from the sidewalk," the newspaper said.
One recent visitor, Kristi Singh of Columbia, Md., said of the home, "I was thinking more of a shrine, or at least a sign saying, "Steve Jobs grew up here."
