BOSTON, Sept. 21 (UPI) -- Federal prosecutors Friday urged a court to order Boston mobster James "Whitey" Bulger to forfeit his criminal profits, which they estimated at $25 million.
Prosecutors filed two motions with U.S. District Judge Denise Carper, who presided over the criminal trial, the Boston Globe reported. The papers they filed included charts and diagrams suggesting Bulger's profits from his years dealing drugs and loan sharking came to $25.16 million, most of it from trafficking in cocaine.
"The evidence at trial established, and counsel for the Defendant submitted to the jury, that the interests acquired and maintained ... totaled 'millions upon millions upon millions of dollars,'" prosecutors wrote.
They also asked Carper to split $822,000 found in Bulger's apartment in Santa Monica, Calif., when he was arrested in 2011 after years as a fugitive, among his victims.
Bulger's lawyers said most of his money was seized while he was a fugitive.
Bulger, 84, is almost certain to spend the rest of his life behind bars. He was convicted of a long list of charges including 11 murders.
Carper has scheduled sentencing for Nov. 13 and Nov. 14.
