LONG BEACH, Calif., Sept. 21 (UPI) -- Two men were killed and two women wounded in a shooting at a party in the Los Angeles area, police said.
Sgt. David Marander of the Long Beach Police Department said officers responded to a report of gunfire shortly before 10 p.m. Friday, the Los Angeles Times reported. They found the victims in the back yard of a home where a small party was being held.
Investigators believe the shooter was not a guest but fired into the backyard, Marander said.
Erica Reeder, who lives next door to where the shooting occurred, said she heard what sounded like six shots just before music from the neighboring yard stopped and then she heard women screaming.
When she went outside, she found two women who appeared to be in shock.
"One of them said, 'My brother's shot. My brother's dead. Someone shot my brother,'" Reeder said.
Marander said the men were pronounced dead at the scene. He said one of the women was in critical condition Saturday while the other was expected to recover.
