Delta flight makes emergency landing in Boston

BOSTON, Sept. 20 (UPI) -- A Delta Air Lines flight to Atlanta made an emergency landing at Boston's Logan Airport Friday shortly after taking off from New Hampshire, officials said.

Delta flight 1941, an MD-88, left the airport in Manchester, N.H., at 7:15 a.m. for Atlanta, The Boston Globe reported.

However, shortly after take off, "fumes were observed in the aircraft," Delta spokesman Morgan Durrant said in a statement.

The plane, which was carrying five crew members and 144 passengers, was diverted to Logan airport, where it made a safe landing and all those aboard were evacuated.

Arrangements for the passengers to continue to Atlanta were being made.

"Delta is reaccomodating customers on other flights while technicians examine the aircraft," Durrant said. "Safety is always Delta's top priority."
