LAREDO, Texas, Sept. 17 (UPI) -- A 53-year-old high school teacher has been arrested in South Texas after federal officials said they found child pornography on a computer at his home.
Jorge Valadez, a teacher at a Laredo high school, was arraigned on charges of receiving and distributing child pornography via the Internet, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said in a statement Monday.
Valadez's arrest came after an investigator with Homeland Security Investigations discovered several videos allegedly depicting sexual contact with children were being shared on the Internet, the statement said.
The videos were traced to the suspect's home in Laredo, where Valadez was arrested Friday.
If convicted, Valadez faces between five and 40 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
ICE said the investigation was part of Operation Predator, a nationwide program to protect children from sexual predators.
