Lawyer seeks dismissal of lawsuits against Casey Anthony

ORLANDO, Fla., Sept. 17 (UPI) -- Casey Anthony's lawyer urged a U.S. judge Tuesday to postpone her scheduled deposition, when she could be questioned about her daughter's death.

During a hearing in Orlando, Fla., David Schrader, representing Anthony in her bankruptcy case, said he plans to move to dismiss two defamation lawsuits, the Orlando Sentinel reported. Schrader told U.S. Bankruptcy Judge K. Rodney May it would be unfair for Anthony to be deposed until he rules on the motions.

May set a Nov. 5 date to hear arguments on the move to dismiss the lawsuits. He said Schrader can file a request for a protective order, which would bar the deposition, now set for Oct. 9.

Caylee Anthony, 2, disappeared in the summer of 2008. Her skeletal remains were found months later in a swampy area near her grandparents' home in Orlando.

Casey Anthony, who first said her daughter had vanished while in the care of a babysitter, was acquitted of murder in 2011 but convicted of misdemeanor charges of lying to police. She has acknowledged hiding her daughter's body but has said Caylee drowned accidentally in her parents' swimming pool and her father, George Anthony, was the one who wanted to conceal the body.

Anthony has been sued for defamation by Zenaida Gonzalez, a Florida woman questioned by police because she has the same name as the babysitter, who proved to be fictitious, and by Roy Kronk, a meter reader who reported to police in August 2008 he had seen a bag with a skull and other bones near the Anthony house.
