NEW YORK, Sept. 16 (UPI) -- Microsoft founder Bill Gates topped the annual Forbes list of richest U.S. residents released Monday for the 20th consecutive year.

Gates, with a net worth of $72 billion, was followed by the perennial No. 2, Warren Buffett of Berkshire-Hathaway with $58.5 billion, and Larry Ellison of Oracle with $41 billion. Two Koch brothers, Charles and David, four Walton heirs to the Walmart fortune and New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who made his fortune, now believed to be $31 billion, with the news service bearing his name, rounded out the Top 10.

The minimum to get into the Top 400 is currently $1.3 billion, with 15 people tied for 386th place. That's high enough that 61 people worth $1 billion or more did not make the cut.
