Hitler ring sells for nearly $66,000 at auction

CHESAPEAKE CITY, Md., Sept. 12 (UPI) -- A ring once owned by Nazi German leader Adolf Hitler sold at an auction in Maryland for nearly $66,000, officials said.

Alexander Historical Auctions sold the silver ring, which is plated in gold and features a swastika made of rubies, in Cecil County Tuesday, The Baltimore Sun reported.

"We are very happy with the result," said Andreas Kornfeld, vice president of international client relations for the auction house. "It is very difficult to estimate objects and relics such as the ring, since there are, or have been, no comparisons on the market."

Kornfeld said the ring generated a lot of interest online.

"We got many -- hundreds of thousands -- of page views on the item," he said.

Although Hitler, who led Germany into World War II and was responsible for orchestrating the Holocaust, was never photographed wearing the ring, Kornfeld said it came with documents that include testimony verifying its authenticity.

"The existence of it has been well-known in collectors' circles," Kornfeld said.
