Woman, 69, rescued after falling into canyon

TUCSON, Sept. 9 (UPI) -- A deer hunter near Tucson discovered a 69-year-old woman who'd fallen some 100 feet into Box Canyon and called authorities to rescue her, police said.

The man was scouting deer Saturday when he noticed a car parked on the side of a road. When he returned the next day the car was still there and he became concerned. After peering over the edge he heard the woman's cries for help and called 911, KPHO-TV, Phoenix, reported.

Authorities hiked down into the canyon, treated the woman for head and body injuries, hooked her up to a sling and air-lifted her out of the canyon to safety.

The Pima County Sheriff's Department did not release the woman's name or an update on her condition.
