George Zimmerman allegedly hits father-in-law in nose, breaks iPad

LAKE MARY, Fla., Sept. 9 (UPI) -- Shellie Zimmerman, estranged wife of Florida stand-your-ground shooter George Zimmerman, alleged he punched her father in the nose and smashed her iPad Monday.

Lake Mary Public Information Officer Zach Hudson told The Sanford Herald police were still investigating the incident inside Shellie Zimmerman's father's home in Lake Mary, but police Chief Steve Bracknell said she "has declined prosecution" of her husband, CNN reported.

"He's in his car and he continually has his hand on his gun and he keeps saying, 'Step closer.' He is just threatening all of us with his firearm," Shellie Zimmerman said in her 911 call.

She also told the dispatcher he had hit her father, David Bryant Dean, and broke her computer tablet before getting in his truck, CNN said.

"I don't know what he's capable of. I'm really, really scared," she said.

Mark O'Mara, George Zimmerman's attorney, said later his client did not touch his gun or have a knife.

Hudson said a surveillance video from inside the home did not show enough of the incident to be of use to investigators.

O'Mara said his client had been staying at his father-in-law's home but likely would leave by day's end. Shellie Zimmerman has not been living at the home and had gone there to retrieve some belongings, the Herald said.

George Zimmerman was acquitted two months ago in the 2012 shooting death of unarmed teenager Trayvon Martin in nearby Sanford in which Zimmerman pleaded self-defense. More recently, he was pulled over twice for speeding, once in Texas and once in Lake Mary.

Shellie Zimmerman filed for divorce last week.

O'Mara attributed the incident to "heightened emotion, and a disagreement took place."

Police said George Zimmerman, who had a bodyguard with him in the truck, was detained by officers, who had their guns drawn, and interviewed at the house, CNN said.

Police confiscated Zimmerman's gun and said he could get it back if no charges are filed, the Herald said.

Police said Dean was not treated by paramedics.
