Student pleads guilty in 2011 stabbing of school principal

MEMPHIS, Sept. 3 (UPI) -- An East Memphis, Tenn., student pleaded guilty Tuesday for the 2011 stabbing death of his school principal in a plea agreement with prosecutors.

Eduardo Marmolejo, 18, a student at Memphis Junior Academy, was sentenced at the Shelby County, Tenn., Justice Center to 35 years in jail with no parole for the second-degree murder of Suzette York, 49. He faced life imprisonment if convicted of first-degree murder, the (Memphis) Commercial Appeal reported.

Marmolejo told police after the stabbing he was angry with York and other school personnel for denying him certain school privileges.

State prosecutor Reginald Henderson said the plea agreement was negotiated with the approval of York's family, who did not want to go through a trial.
