Illinois weather radar zapped by lightning bolt

ROMEOVILLE, Ill., Sept. 1 (UPI) -- Weather forecasters in Illinois got a little too close to the action this weekend, reporting that their office in Romeoville had been struck by lightning.

Saturday's bolt knocked the National Weather Service facility's radar out of action until sometime Sunday.

"The technician is hoping to have it back up and running some time tomorrow (Sunday)," the NWS said on its Facebook page.

Elmhurst Patch.com said the lack of radar came at the same time fog was predicted in the Romeoville area after the storms blew through.
