SAN DIEGO, Aug. 30 (UPI) -- San Diego Mayor Bob Filner Friday formally made his quiet exit after nine months in City Hall that ended with a sexual harassment scandal.
Filner formally resigned at 5 p.m., and Council President Todd Gloria took over as interim mayor, U-T San Diego reported.
The Democratic mayor had not been seen all week, KFMB-TV, San Diego, reported. He is scheduled to leave office at 5:01 p.m. and replaced by City Council President Todd Gloria, who will serve as interim mayor until a special election in November, followed by a runoff early next year if no one gets 50 percent of the vote.
One person who is not being quiet is Gloria Allred, the Los Angeles lawyer who is representing several women who say they were subjected to groping and sex talk from Filner. Allred, who has been involved in a number of celebrity cases, held a mid-morning news conference Friday to mark the mayor's departure.

Filner agreed to resign last Friday. The city council agreed to pay his legal expenses in litigation with his former communications director, Irene McCormack Jackson, and any damages awarded to her, the Los Angeles Times reported.
But the newspaper said Filner could face more troubles. Both the state attorney general and the San Diego County district attorney are investigating whether his conduct could have been criminal assault.
One of Filner's last acts in office was to pay $975 in personal expenses charged to a city credit card, U-T San Diego reported.
Filner, 70, a Democrat, represented a Southern California district in Congress from 1993 until he became mayor in 2012. He has been married twice and divorced twice.
