ATLANTA, Aug. 28 (UPI) -- A man and a woman were killed in a shooting involving a police officer early Wednesday in what Georgia police called a domestic incident.
The officer was placed on administrative leave as authorities tried to determine if he was responsible for the man's death, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
The officer was called to a reported domestic dispute about 12:30 a.m. and saw a woman in the driveway walking toward him, Gwinnett County police said in a statement.
A man at the home shot her in the back and she fell to the ground. The officer fired at the man, who fell to the ground and fired another shot.
The man and the woman both died at the scene.
The officer was not injured.
Authorities said they were investigating to determine if the man was killed by the officer's shot or if he shot himself.
None of the identities of the people involved were released.
