Jewelry pilfered from posh Park Ave. apartment building

NEW YORK, Aug. 15 (UPI) -- Residents of a tony Manhattan apartment building confirmed their fashionable address has been hit repeatedly by jewel thieves in recent months.

The management of the building on Park Avenue said in a written statement it was cooperating with police investigating what the New York Post said was four incidents in which more than $100,000 worth of jewelry disappeared.

The Post said Thursday its sources reported the thefts were relatively limited with only a few items taken in each incident. There could be additional thefts that have yet to be discovered, police told the newspaper.

"Most of the victims didn't realize when their items went missing," a source told the Post, adding, "Many people have access, including service staff and workers."

New York police declined to identify any of the victims; however, the Post said 740 Park Ave., is home to a blue-chip roster of multimillionaires and moguls, including David Koch and fashion designer Vera Wang.
