EDGARTOWN, Mass., Aug. 11 (UPI) -- President Obama spent his first full day of vacation on Martha's Vineyard off Massachusetts Sunday golfing with friends and dining out with the first lady.

The president, with Marvin Nicholson, Robert Wolf and Sam Kass rounding out his foursome, was seen by pool reporters chipping a shot to the green, but then three-putting from about 15 feet from the pin.

Obama, clad in a white shirt and khaki shorts, was seen reacting to his first putt by leaning back and kicking his knee up, as if trying to will the ball into breaking right. "Ooooh," he could be heard saying as the ball failed to drop. He missed his second try and then just dragged the ball into the hole, eliciting what appeared to be a little light banter and ribbing by his companions.

The more than 5-hour round of golf, played at Farm Neck Golf Club in Oak Bluffs under a blue sky with a light breeze, was followed by dinner with Michelle Obama and friends at The Sweet Life Cafe, located in a small, yellow Victorian house.

A small crowd of people gathered across the street, snapping photos.
