SEATTLE, Aug. 10 (UPI) -- A co-founder of the new mobile app for Seattle residents who don't mind sharing leftover food with strangers says he'll put his mouth where his money is.
Dan Newman said he would spend a month foraging for food around the city using the Leftover Swap app, which people can use to post photos of leftovers they would like to get rid of but don't want to waste.
"A lot of people are disgusted at first because they don't see the whole realm of possibilities," said Newman, who along with partner Bryan Summersett will launch Leftover Swap August 30.
Newman told the New York Daily News there were no set rules for how old the offerings can be but had confidence the sense of community would keep unhealthy goods out of circulation.
At its best, Leftover Swap will chip in on helping the hungry and reducing the amount of almost perfectly good food from winding up in the trash.
"Once they realize they can grab a perfectly good box of mac and cheese from someone clearing out their cupboard, and how fun it will be to snap a picture of the half of a pizza they haven't eaten, they'll come around," he predicted.
