TOMS RIVER, N.J., Aug. 9 (UPI) -- A New Jersey woman and her father are likely to spend the rest of their lives in prison for killing her ex-husband.
Kathleen Dorsett, 39, of Ocean was sentenced to 58 years Thursday, the Asbury Park Press reported. She must serve at least 47 years before she is eligible for parole.
Her father, Thomas Dorsett, 66, got a 45-year term with a 30-year parole disqualifier. Her mother, Lesley, also 66, received a seven-year sentence.
Stephen Moore, 42, of Manchester, N.J., returned his daughter to his wife shortly before he was beaten to death in 2010.
Prosecutors say Kathleen planned the killing and her father carried it out. Lesley Dorsett, a former teacher and member of the school board, allegedly conspired with her daughter to kill Moore's mother, a plot that was not carried out.
Assistant Monmouth County Prosecutor Marc LeMieux said Kathleen Dorsett did not want Moore to have any control over their daughter.
"She was manipulative, and she used her father as a pawn," he said.
Barry Slott, representing Kathleen, said she is now likely to be permanently separated from her daughter.
Thomas Dorsett owned a refrigeration business, and Kathleen was teaching third grade when Moore died.
Thomas gave a half-hour statement about his family that included describing his wife's pea soup as "perfect."
