DECATUR, Ga., Aug. 5 (UPI) -- Defense attorney for a Georgia woman accused of lying about her former boss' involvement in her husband's killing says his client "did nothing wrong."
Opening statements in the trial against Andrea Sneiderman began Monday in Decatur, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
Sneiderman faces 13 felony counts, including perjury, making false statements, hindering the apprehension of a criminal and concealing a material fact in connection with the death of her husband, Rusty Sneiderman, who was killed outside a daycare center in 2010. The maximum sentences for each count range from five to 10 years in prison.
The prosecution said that Andrea Sneiderman convinced her lover and former boss, Hemy Neuman, to kill her husband. Neuman was found guilty in Rusty Sneiderman's murder and sentenced to life in prison last year.
Sneiderman has pleaded not guilty to the charges against her and denied there was an affair between her and Neuman.
Defense attorney Tom Clegg said his client "did nothing wrong," and she gave police Nueman's name first.
"On Nov. 19, 36 hours after her husband had been gunned down in cold blood, Andrea Sneiderman gives them the name of the man who did it and, frankly, gives them the motive," Clegg said. "She didn't know, and based on the guy's personality, she had no reason to believe Hemy Neuman committed this crime."
