3 killed in South Carolina plane crash identified

CONWAY, S.C., Aug. 3 (UPI) -- A small plane crashed in South Carolina Saturday afternoon, killing the pilot and both passengers on board and knocking out power in the area, authorities said.

Horry County Assistant Fire and Rescue Chief Scott Thompson said the plane went down in a Conway subdivision and hit a power utility pole, WMBF-TV reported.

The deputy county coroner identified the victims as James Major, 39, of Conway, the pilot; and passengers Kenneth Piuma, 42 or 43, of Myrtle Beach, and Donald Dale Decker, 16, of Conway, the Myrtle Beach TV station said. There were no confirmed injuries to anyone on the ground.

Penelope Hinson of Horry Electric said more than 200 customers would be without power until the damage could be repaired.

County airports official Kirk Lovell said the plane had taken off from the Conway Airport. The cause of the crash had not been determined.
