Video captures inmate's escape from jail in Arkansas

HOT SPRINGS, Ark., July 31 (UPI) -- A surveillance video captured the escape of an inmate, who, with a visitor's help, bolted through a reception area in a county jail in Arkansas, officials said.

Derrick Estell ran out of the front of the jail Sunday, with a deputy chasing him but was able to jump into a waiting car and got away.

The car was abandoned just a few minutes away and police arrested William Harding, who allegedly distracted deputies in the jail and provided the getaway car.

Estell was in prison for aggravated robbery, breaking and entering and burglary.

Garland County Judge Rick Davis said overcrowding and understaffing could have contributed to the escape, KTVH, Little Rock, reported.

The jail was built in 1986 and was made to house only 88 inmates but by the end of next year, will hold more than 400, officials said.

A new, 156,000-square-foot jail with an improved security system is being planned.
