Poll: Number of people saying sequester affecting them on the rise

WASHINGTON, July 29 (UPI) -- The number of Americans who say they were negatively impacted by the budget cuts from the sequester is rising, an NBC News-Wall Street Journal Poll indicated.

Twenty-two percent of Americans surveyed said they were affected significantly by the cuts, results released Monday indicated.

Soon after the sequester first took place in April, 16 percent said they were affected significantly by the policy.

Americans earning less than $30,000 a year said they were hit the hardest, results indicated. Thirty-one percent of respondents making less than $30,000 said they were affected by the spending cuts, up from 24 percent in April and the most of any other income level group.

The survey indicated while the overall economy weathered the across-the-board cuts relatively well, the cuts took the biggest bite from the nation's most vulnerable.

Results are based on nationwide telephone interviews with 1,000 adults conducted July 17-21. The margin of error is 3.1 percent.
