Dorian loses tropical storm status

MIAMI, July 27 (UPI) -- Tropical Storm Dorian deteriorated into a tropical wave far out in the Atlantic Ocean Saturday afternoon, U.S. forecasters said.

The National Hurricane Center said in its 5 p.m. EDT advisory that Dorian was about 550 miles east of the northern Leeward Islands.

The forecasters said the storm had maximum sustained winds of 40 mph up to 70 miles from its center as it moved in a westerly direction at 24 miles per hour.

The center said there were no coastal watches or warnings in effect related to the storm, which had lost its closed surface circulation.
