An investigation began in April at her residence in Riverside County.

Officers allegedly discovered 30 abandoned dogs, including puppies, on the property, the Times said.

Some of the animals were deceased and others were suffering, investigators said.

Schwenn was arrested Thursday.

Authorities said they had previously instructed her to take care of the animals.

"Yet she neglected to do so," the district attorney's office said in a statement.
