SEATTLE, July 25 (UPI) -- The Drug Enforcement Administration raided medical marijuana dispensaries this week in the Seattle area, a lawyer and clinic operators said.
Casey Lee, who works at the Bayside Collective in Olympia, Wash., told The Olympian agents seized 11 or 12 plants and about a quarter-pound of marijuana.
"I don't think we're doing anything wrong here," Lee said. "This is really disturbing. We just opened last month."
Medical marijuana has been legal in Washington State for 15 years, and voters last year approved the legalization of recreational marijuana. But marijuana remains illegal under federal law.
Douglas Hiatt, a lawyer who represents clinic operators, said he knew of at least four clinics that were raided, KING-TV reported. But he said a client told him a DEA agent said 18 clinics were targeted.
KING-TV said a source in the DEA played down the raids, saying they were part of a 2011 investigation. The source said the four clinics were ones that had not reached plea agreements or gone to trial.
