ATLANTA, July 25 (UPI) -- Health officials say the Silver Shadow cruise ship failed a surprise inspection while docked in Skagway, Alaska, conducted after a worker sent in photographs.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control said the ship, owned by Silversea cruises, was cited for removing 15 trolleys of food from the ship's galley to individual cabins to avoid inspection.
The inspection, which took place June 17, came after an anonymous worker sent pictures to the CDC of meat in crew cabin sinks and trays of food in the corridors.
Adriano Colonna, a pastry chef on the ship, said a trolley full of salami and unrefrigerated blue cheese was stored in crew's cabins.
A spokesman for Silversea Cruises emailed CNN and said she was disappointed in the outcome of the inspection, but said it was an anomaly.
The CDC has no authority to correct any of the issues, CNN said, so the owners were not fined and the ship was not stopped from proceeding along its trip in Alaska.
Silversea is a luxury cruise line and charges passengers an average of $5,000 per week to sail, CNN said.
