LOS ANGELES, July 24 (UPI) -- A California high school math teacher has been charged with nine felony counts of sexually assaulting a 17-year-old student, police say.
Prosecutors said Michelle Lynn Johnson, 45, committed the alleged assaults off campus and at Brea Olinda High School where she taught, the Los Angeles Times reported Tuesday.
The alleged activity occurred between April and June after Johnson began privately tutoring the teen and other students, authorities said.
The boy's parents became suspicious of the relationship between their son and the teacher and contacted police.
Johnson has been placed on administrative leave and is free on $20,000 bond. She was due to be arraigned Wednesday.
If convicted, she could face eight years, four months in prison.
