Last hospitalized Boston Marathon bombing victim is discharged

BOSTON, July 24 (UPI) -- Marc Fucarile was discharged from a Boston hospital Wednesday, the last person injured in the Boston Marathon bombing to leave medical treatment.

Fucarile, 34, lost his right leg in the April 15 bombing, and his heart still contains shrapnel from the homemade bombs that exploded as he watched the end of the race, NBC News reported.

His discharge from Boston's Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital comes 100 days after the marathon. Considered one of the most severely injured of survivors, he spent 45 days at Massachusetts General Hospital before entering Spaulding, WHDH-TV, Boston, said.

Fucarile, a roofer, has a son, 5, and a wife, a nurse. He told New England Cable News he is focused on finding a handicap-accessible apartment and a new career.

"I feel like I've been on the longest, craziest roller coaster," he said.
