Hunt renewed for information on Baby Hope 22 years after her death

NEW YORK, July 24 (UPI) -- New York police say they have resumed the hunt for information about a young girl whose remains were found in a cooler in a city park more than two decades ago.

The renewed energy in the case came on the 22nd anniversary of the discovery of the remains of the child, believed 3 to 5 years old, The New York Times reported Tuesday.

No missing persons report was ever filed on the child, who became known only as Baby Hope. Her body was buried in St. Raymond's Cemetery in the Bronx in 1993. The medical examiner's office was able to construct Baby Hope's DNA profile, in 2011, on the second try. But no genetic match has ever been found in the databases of convicted felons or missing persons.

On Tuesday, officers passed out fliers asking for information in the Dyckman Street neighborhood where the baby's body was found. A police van mounted with loudspeakers blared out requests for the public's help as it drove the area's streets.

A police spokesman said everything about this case "is already out there."

"We're trying to target the older people," said one officer as he passed out fliers.

"Obviously, somebody had to know her," said Detective Robert Dewhurst of the NYPD Cold Case squad.
