HOUSTON, July 24 (UPI) -- Several dogs of a pack believed to be as large as 15 animals that attacked and severely injured a Houston woman have been captured, animal control officers say.
The woman, Maria Arcos, 52, is hospitalized in critical condition after the dogs stripped off her clothes and dragged her through the street, CBS News reported Wednesday.
Family members said Arcos was attacked under an overpass Monday morning as she walked to a bus stop in Houston's Fifth Ward.
"[They bit] her arms, her legs, her neck -- they cover[ed] her," said Oscar Reyes, the woman's stepson. "They was eating her."
Five of the dogs had been captured in a trap by late Tuesday night by animal control officers, who said the creatures were living under a nearby mortuary.
Two of the animals appear to be only about 4 months old, officers said. A pit bull is leading the pack.
Chris Glaser, manager of the city's animal control, said a railroad employee saw the attack and called for help, KHOU-TV, Houston, reported.
Glaser described attacks by an entire pack of dogs as "very rare."
He said the dogs would be euthanized to test for rabies.
