OKLAHOMA CITY, July 16 (UPI) -- A judge called an Oklahoma teacher's conduct "disgusting" before sentencing her to four years in prison for having sex with a student.
Lisa Kays, 48, of Yukon, Okla., pleaded guilty to three counts of second-degree rape and two counts of forcible oral sodomy after having sex with a male student six times between September 2011 and January 2012, court documents show.
Kays begged Oklahoma County District Judge Ray Elliott for mercy Monday and said she's taken responsibility for her conduct, The (Oklahoma City) Oklahoman said.
"I realize that I'm to blame for my actions," Kays said. "And I promise you that I have been punished for my actions. I have lost everything that I worked for."
Elliott wasn't moved.
"You violated that trust in one of the worse possible ways," Elliott said. "You were there to teach, not fornicate. Your actions were disgusting."
Court documents indicated the male student, a 17-year-old junior football player and member of student government, suffered mental trauma following the incidents and at one point contemplated suicide.
Kays taught Spanish at Putnam City High School.
