TOPSFIELD, Mass., July 16 (UPI) -- A suburban Boston man arrested last month had a pressure cooker stashed in his closet along with alleged bomb-making materials, court documents show.
Topsfield police said in a recently unsealed affidavit officers searching the closet of Daniel Morley said they found materials including fertilizer and ball bearings as well as a large pressure cooker similar to the ones used in the Boston Marathon bombings this spring.
Morley, 27, was arrested for allegedly attacking his mother and was later transferred to a psychiatric hospital for evaluation. He was to appear in court for arraignment Thursday.
Morley reportedly had a former friend who knew accused Marathon bomber Tamerlan Tsarnaev. The FBI and police have declined to comment on any connection Morley might have to the Boston bombing; however, his attorney, Robert LeBlanc, told The Boston Globe there did not appear to be one and his client suffered psychiatric problems.
"My view of this is that it was an unfortunate and harmless situation, which I expect will be rationally resolved once we have a report from Bridgewater (State Hospital)," said LeBlanc. "There's no indication that he intended or had any capacity for harm."
The police statement filed with the court said officers also seized a shotgun, pistol, ammunition and anti-government and anti-Semitic literature.
