Teens steal iPhones from T-Mobile stores

DETROIT, July 12 (UPI) -- Police in Michigan say they're searching for a group of teenagers suspected of stealing iPhones from T-Mobile cellular shops across the Metro Detroit area.

"They look like their ages are from 16 to maybe 20. It's the same M.O.: They go into the store to look at the phones, and then rip them from the tether and run off," St. Claire Shores Detective Sgt. Jay Cohoe said.

The suspects have targeted stores in St. Claire Shores, Oak Park, Warren and Detroit, police told The Detroit News.

One of the suspects assaulted an employee during a heist on June 28 in Detroit, police said.

Three suspects entered the store at about 7:30 p.m., and employees, who had been alerted about the incidents, recognized the men.

The teens then ripped the phones from their security cords.

"An employee that attempted to prevent the suspects from fleeing was assaulted and thrown to the floor by the suspects," Cohoe said. "The employee complained of shoulder pain as a result of the assault, but refused medical treatment."

Anyone with information is asked to contact the St. Clair Shores Police Department at 586-445-5305.
