Virginia governor's son faces charge of public intoxication

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., July 10 (UPI) -- One of Virginia Gov. Robert F. McDonnell's twin sons is due to appear to court next month to answer charges of public intoxication, officials say.

Sean McDonnell, 21, has been released from jail on his own recognizance after he was arrested early Saturday morning in Charlottesville near the campus of the University of Virginia where he is a student, The Washington Post reported Tuesday.

An officer stopped McDonnell after the rising senior was spotted walking in a part of town with bars and restaurants, said Lt. Ronnie Roberts, a police spokesman.

McDonnell is due to appear in Charlottesville General District Court Aug. 12.
