Florida teen bitten by 9-to-10 foot alligator; needs lots of stitches

GENEVA, Fla., July 9 (UPI) -- A Florida teenager required numerous stitches after being bitten by an alligator while swimming in a Seminole County river, authorities said.

Andrew Hudson, 17, of Winter Springs told the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission he was bitten on the head and neck by a 9-to-10 foot alligator in the Econlockhatchee River, the Orlando (Fla.) Sentinel reported.

Hudson was taken by ambulance to South Seminole Hospital in Longwood Monday where he was treated and then released.

He said he knew alligators were in the river but he didn't see any when he decided to take a swim in the Little Big Econ State Forest. The area is open to swimmers.
