Arkansas children's library named for Hillary Clinton

LITTLE ROCK, Ark., July 9 (UPI) -- Hillary Clinton read "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" to children gathered at the dedication of an Arkansas library named in her honor, officials said.

The Hillary Rodham Clinton Children's Library and Learning Center in Little Rock, Ark., was dedicated Monday before a standing-room-only crowd, The (Little Rock) Arkansas Times reported.

Former President Bill Clinton and Betsey Wright, chief of staff when Clinton was Arkansas governor, were on hand for the ceremony, the newspaper said.

Central Arkansas Library System Director Bobby Roberts introduced Hillary Clinton, saying he couldn't think of a better person after which to name the new library.

The 13 named libraries in the system represent "the goodness in all of us. ... They tell us what our community is," he said.

Roberts said the library was named after the former secretary of state due to her service on the board of Arkansas Children's Hospital, her work as co-founder of Arkansas Advocates for Children and Families, and her to work to build a coalition of reform schools in the state.

Hillary Clinton said she was moved by the honor, adding the library could become the "first teacher" for children of financially burdened parents.

"We have to recreate the village," she said. "We have to support families."
