CLEVELAND, July 8 (UPI) -- A Cleveland man was sentenced Monday to nearly 23 years in federal prison for weapons violations stemming from the shooting of a dog tied to a tree.
Raymone Clements, 42, who previously spent 16 years in prison for two rapes, aggravated robbery, drug trafficking, drug possession and receipt of stolen property, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Donald Nugent, The (Cleveland) Plain Dealer reported.
After a four-day trial in April, a jury took 45 minutes to convict Clements of being a felon in illegal possession of a gun and ammunition. The charges stemmed from accusations he tied a bull mastiff to a tree in a public park in November and fired four shots at it, striking the dog twice.
The dog survived and was adopted by a local woman, the newspaper added.
