Man arrested for throwing dog off balcony in fit of rage

MARIETTA, Ga., July 6 (UPI) -- Georgia police said a man staying at a motel threw a crate holding a dog off a second-story balcony, seriously injuring the pup.

Neighbors who saw the incident called 911 and police told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Friday they could hardly believe the allegations -- until they reviewed security footage taken at the All-Around Suites in Marietta, Ga.

Marcell Sibley has been charged with felony cruelty to animals.

Witnesses said Sibley grabbed the small Yorkshire terrier by the neck and slapped it. Moments later he emerged from his room at the motel with the dog inside a kennel and threw it over the balcony onto a concrete surface below.

He then went downstairs, scooped up the dog and the crate and threw it in a Dumpster. Witnesses said they found the animal barely alive and seriously hurt.

Police said the dog suffered broken bones and a spinal injury. It was unclear whether the animal would survive.

"I think it takes a sick individual to mistreat a little animal. I don't care if it's a dog or cat or whatever," witness Don Dugan said.
