Reporter seeks subpoena cancellation in Aurora theater shooting case

AURORA, Colo., July 3 (UPI) -- Television reporter Jana Winter has asked a subpoena, demanding her sources for a story about the Aurora, Colo., theater shooting, be canceled.

Attorneys for James Holmes, the suspect in the July 20, 2012, shooting in which 12 people were killed and 58 injured, want to call Winter, a Fox News reporter, as a witness to learn who leaked information to her about a notebook Holmes mailed to his University of Colorado psychiatrist hours before the incident, the Denver Post reported Wednesday.

The contents of the notebook have not been publicly closed, but Winter reported in July it contains violent drawings and details of a murder plot. Winter said she got the information from "a law enforcement source."

In an affidavit filed Tuesday, Winter wrote to Judge Carlos Samour she has suffered nightmares, panic attacks and career setbacks as a result of the subpoena.

Samour had previously suggested Winter could face six months in jail if she does not reveal her sources, the newspaper said.
