Former boyfriend charged in fatal fire that killed three Michigan kids

KALAMAZOO, Mich., July 3 (UPI) -- The former boyfriend of a Michigan woman whose three youngest children were killed in a February house fire has been arraigned on felony child abuse charges.

Fred Glespie, 19, appeared by video in a Kalamazoo County courtroom where Judge Julie K. Phillips set bond at $5,000, the Kalamazoo (Mich.) Gazette reported Wednesday.

Glespie is charged with second-degree child abuse for the Feb. 18 fire that killed Jonetta Woods' three youngest children, 1-year-old Ty'onna Henderson and 3-year-old twins Tevin and Te'Niyah Williams.

The children had been left alone in Woods' apartment at Interfaith Homes. Her oldest child, 5-year-old Drayanna O'Day, escaped the apartment fire without injury.

In May a family division jury of Kalamazoo County Circuit Court found Glespie and Woods neglectful on the day of the fire.
