Casey Anthony wins ruling on defamation lawsuits

TAMPA, Fla., June 26 (UPI) -- A federal bankruptcy judge in Florida says two defamation lawsuits filed against Casey Anthony should be heard in his court.

Tuesday's ruling was sought by Anthony's attorneys, the Orlando Sentinel reported. Anthony filed for bankruptcy in January in Tampa.

Anthony, who was acquitted of killing her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee, has been sued for defamation by Zenaida Gonzalez and Roy Kronk. Gonzalez has the same name as the fictitious babysitter Anthony said had abducted her daughter after Caylee was reported missing in 2008, while Kronk is the meter reader who found the toddler's skeletal remains in a swamp near her grandparents' home. During her trial, Anthony's attorney suggested Kronk had planted the remains to collect a reward.

Bankruptcy Judge K. Rodney May said there appears to be no point in trying the cases in Orange County Circuit Court if Anthony has no money to pay judgments.

Anthony was not at Tuesday's hearing.
