FBI agents focus of Bulger trial

BOSTON, June 24 (UPI) -- FBI agents who allegedly helped frustrate investigations into murders in the sport of jai alai were the focus of James "Whitey" Bulger's Boston trial Monday.

Federal prosecutors used internal FBI records to build a case that Bulger used his ties to corrupt FBI agents to slow investigators seeking to tie Bulger to four murders he and his Winter Hill gang are accused of committing in an effort to take over World Jai alai, based in Miami, the Hartford, Conn., Courant reported.

Formerly confidential reports, presented in court Monday, show Bulger was deflecting law enforcement suspicion away from him, the newspaper said.

Bulger is on trial, after evading arrest for 19 years, on a variety of murder, racketeering and bribery charges.
