ZALESKI, Ohio, June 20 (UPI) -- A 92-year-old Ohio man could face eviction from the home he built since the daughter who now owns the home rejected his offer to buy it, his granddaughter says.
John Potter has received an eviction notice from his daughter, Janice Cotrill, and his son-in-law and must be out of the house next week, ABC News reported Thursday.
Potter and his granddaughter, Jaclyn Fraley, have raised $139,603 through an Internet site to buy the house.
The house has been appraised with a market value of $47,000 plus $2,830 for a tract of land, and Potter had offered that amount to his daughter. She counter-offered for $85,000 plus an additional $15,500 for eviction and attorney fees.
Potter said he didn't want to pay more than what the house was worth, but made a second offer of $60,000, which was declined without a counter-offer.
Fraley, who expects the judge to evict her grandfather at a June 26 hearing, described the situation as "just so heartbreaking."
She's considered buying her grandfather a new house or building on to his caretaker's home. Fraley wants to keep him near his friends and is concerned about how Potter could be affected by a move away from the house he built 56 years ago.
"Right now I don't think he truly believes this is happening, because he never thought this would happen," his granddaughter said.
