South New Jersey doctor killed by husband in murder-suicide

PENNSAUKEN, N.J., June 19 (UPI) -- A South New Jersey doctor was killed Tuesday in her office by her estranged husband, who then turned his gun on himself, police said.

Dr. Michelle Liggio, 47, who had filed for divorce from her husband, Christopher, was on her lunch break, Pennsauken police said. Employees upstairs had already called police after hearing a violent argument downstairs when they heard the gunshots, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported.

A source in law enforcement told the newspaper employees said they heard Michelle Liggio calling, "No, no no."

The couple, who lived in nearby Mount Laurel, had two sons.

Michelle Liggio was a family practitioner. After the shootings, some of her patients gathered outside her Pennsauken office, WCAU-TV reported.

"She listened, she cared, and she took the time to go over things with you," said Frank Wolf. "I convinced my wife to come to her and she loves her also. We're both upset about this."
