Arrest made in shooting of boy at Juneteenth festival in Ohio

COLUMBUS, Ohio, June 16 (UPI) -- Police in Columbus, Ohio, said Sunday they had arrested a teenage suspect in a Juneteenth festival shooting that left an 11-year-old boy wounded.

The shooting prompted authorities to shut down the festival, which commemorates the day in 1865 when Texas abolished slavery.

Lovauntea J. Mickens, 15, of Columbus allegedly fired a gunshot that hit the younger boy in the leg about 7 p.m. Saturday at Franklin Park, The Columbus Dispatch reported. The victim, whose name had not been released, was hospitalized in stable condition.

City police Lt. Bela Bernhardt said four juveniles were arrested for fighting before the shooting, the newspaper said.
