Enduring Dunkin Donuts rant wins workers award

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., June 13 (UPI) -- Two Dunkin Donuts workers in Florida who kept their cool when an irate customer let loose with a racist tirade are being hailed by the company.

The composure of Fort Lauderdale counter staff employee Abid Adar and a co-worker, identified as Nithi, as they endured the rant by a customer identified as Taylor Chapman was caught on video and hit the Internet. Chapman unleashed her verbal venom while seeking free food under a company policy in cases when customers are not given a receipt, the New York Daily News reported.

"The franchise owner of the restaurant has reached out to the crew member privately to express and demonstrate his personal appreciation," Dunkin Donuts public relations official Michelle King told the newspaper in an email.

"Additionally, Dunkin' Brands' leadership has reached out to the two crew members featured in the video. Both have been invited to an internal company event in Boca Raton later this month for further recognition."

Chapman called Nithi "a little [expletive, expletive]."

By Sunday, the video had gone viral, eliciting widespread sympathy for the workers, including an effort to raise $10,000 for them. More than $1,000 had been collected by Wednesday afternoon, the Daily News said.
