Rwanda genocide prosecutor urges cooperation in capturing fugitives

UNITED NATIONS, June 12 (UPI) -- The prosecutor in the 1994 Rwanda genocide tribunal urged U.N. member states to help find nine suspected war criminals still at large.

Speaking Tuesday at U.N. headquarters in New York, Justice Hassan Bubacar Jallow, prosecutor of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda, called for member states "to live up to their obligations and cooperate."

The tribunal, established after the genocide in which 800,000 ethnic Tutsis and politically moderate Hutus were killed in 1994, has indicted 93 people for war crimes, all but nine of whom have been arrested, the United Nations said.
